Mukanzo Orphanage - Let's Make Their Christmas Better (and Bread-er)!

Hey friends! So many of us are looking for ways to reach out and do some good in our weird new disconnected world. And European Ware Haus and Gingerbread World want to do their small part too.

Ninety percent (yup 90%) of the sale price of every item in our Vintage Volkswagen Collection and our Gummy Bear Collection will be donated to a very special place for a very special reason.
Mukanzo Orphanage Fundraiser

Where the money will be going

Mukanzo Orphanage in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The orphanage is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. They are not funded by state or federal money but survive only by the generous support and donations from kind hearted people all over the world. Thirty children live in a simple, family like setting - a place they can call "HOME" where they build solid foundations for their present and future.

Why Mukanzo?
Gingerbread World Customer Service
My dear friend Elizabeth (left) who does all the customer service at Gingerbread World at Christmas time has been involved with the orphanage almost from the start. She and her 16 year old daughter Maddie have held countless fundraisers over the years - garage sales and bike-a-thons. Their commitment to the Mukanzo children has always super impressed me.

Gingerbread World Blog - Raising Money for Orphanage in DRC
At the latest fundraiser - a socially distanced and masked Garage Sale - Elizabeth and Maddie were telling me about their latest ambitions of helping the orphanage buy a bread oven and the ingredients needed to not only bake bread for the children but enough to sell in the market to make enough money so that the children could eat a second meal every day (yes, they only eat one meal a day). You can read more about Mukanzo and see some pics here.

Given that so much of Gingerbread World's business is baked goods (the German Christmas pastries called Lebkuchen) I thought this was a perfect match for my little company.

How does it work?

Mukanzo Orphanage and European Ware Haus raise funds for bread over
90% of the selling price of all of the items in the Volkswagen and Gummy Bear Collections will go to the Mukanzo Orphanage Foundation. Why just 90% and not 100%? There are credit card and PayPal costs that we will have to pay on each sale as well as packaging costs. (The new VW glass ornaments are not included in this)

So all you do is buy something from these Collections and you will be helping out an incredibly worthy cause. PLUS you will be getting some very cool classic VW stuff or Gummy Bear gear - these make great gifts and they are all on sale at pretty deep discounts.

What we need from you?

We need your help getting the word out. Please let your friends know about this fun opportunity. Post it on social media - you can save the image from this blog post and post it on Facebook, Instagram, etc. Especially let the Volkswagen lovers in your life know about this - the VW swag is pretty fabulous!

And if you feel so are welcome to make a donation directly to the Mukanzo Orphanage Foundation. Here's a link to their website where you can find the secure donation link where you can get a tax receipt for donations over $20.

Doing what we can with what we've got...
