Shipping to the U.S. – What You Need to Know

As of August 20, 2025 we will no longer be taking orders to be shipped to US addresses. The US government is eliminating the "de minimus" rule that allowed shipments in value of less than $800 to cross from Canada to the USA without tariffs (and all the associated fees and paperwork).

As a small business we are not in a position to absorb the additional work/costs. On top of that there is a lot of uncertainty as to how these changes will be implemented and managed.

We are not taking pre-orders at this time given the uncertainty around how these changes are being implemented.

We love our American customers!
We’ve been proud to ship our unique collection of products across the border to our U.S. friends. With recent changes to import rules and general uncertainty, we will attempt to keep this up-to-date.

Here are answers to a few common questions — and as always, feel free to contact us if you need any extra help - email is the most efficient way to reach us - info@gingerbread-world.com.

FAQ for Our U.S. Customers

1. Can I still order from your store if I live in the United States?
We are able to ship orders to you until the end of August - the last day for placing orders for US destinations will be August 20, 2025.
You are welcome to place orders from the US to ship to Canadian addresses.

2. Will I have to pay any extra duties or taxes when my order arrives?
Until August 29 shipments from Canada under $800 USD typically enter the U.S. duty-free. If your order total is under $800, you should not expect to pay any additional customs fees. (If anything changes, we will update you right away). After August 29 we will not be shipping to the US.

3. Some of your products are made in China — will that affect my order?
Yes. As of May 2025 items made in China are not available to ship to the USA. As a small Canadian retailer, it would cost us just too much in brokerage fees to ship items from China across the border.

4. How long will shipping to the U.S. take?
If we are able to re-instate shipping orders to the US we will continue to ship with USPS. Most U.S. orders arrive within 5–10 business days. We'll provide tracking information to you in an email so you can follow your shipment every step of the way.

5. What happens if U.S. import rules change again?
We closely monitor all cross-border shipping regulations. If any new duties, delays, or procedures could affect your order, we’ll notify you before your purchase is completed.

6. What about Lebkuchen? Is there a chance American customers will still be able to purchase Lebkuchen, pastries and confections?
We are working to figure out how we can continue to ship orders into the US. This is a time consuming and costly process for us as a little company. Canadian businesses will be required to pay a US-based broker to get our shipments across the border. Tariffs will be applied that the customer pays - but we haven't figured out how those are collected. But we're not giving up!
