Wendt & Kühn Blumenkinder and Friends - Pair of Children

Simply Inseparable. A girl with cheeky pigtails, a boy with a jaunty striped beanie – these are the Pair of Children. This is a private design thatm, until 2022, had never gone into production before and was created by Ollie Wendt, nee Sommer: the creative designer who worked alongside Greta Wendt.

Twins Hans and Sigrid Wendt, came into the world on October 9, 1930. From then onwards, they were a much loved part of their mother Ollie‘s life. The laughter of the children in the house appears to have inspired her artistic creativity, as in the years that followed, she designed a wide variety of figurines featuring pairs of children and twins. Among them is this adorable example.

Standing closely side-by-side, the boy places a trusting hand on the back of his companion. While she appears quite bold in her orange-coloured dress, the boy seems more shy. It’s good they have a friend at their side.

The Pair of Children makes a wonderful gift for parents and grandparents, who see in them their own children or grandchildren. For siblings, the figurines encourage them to support each other throughout their lives. And it is also a wonderful gift for good friends as a reminder of a happy childhood spent together.

While the front view of the figurines is enchanting, a glance at the back of the design really touches the heart: with the boy placing a trusting hand on the back of his companion. A gesture that radiates trust and affection.

Handcrafted in Germany with an astonishing amount of detail, Wendt & Kühn  Blumenkinder or Blossom Children radiate the pure innocence of childhood. When designing them in the early 1900's, founder Grete Wendt incorporated the very essence of all her creations: our universal longing for goodness and a sense of security. With their cheery joyfulness, each of her figurines brings us one step closer to this very special spirit.
