Anatomy of a Festive Chest 2016
Last Christmas Season we published a similar article outlining what each of the items in the photograph of the Festive Chest is. We got lots of good feedback on that article so we thought we'd do it again for 2016.
The Festive Chest is always Lebkuchen Schmidt's largest Chest and it is always packed chockful of Lebkuchen and pastries. The contents change a little bit from year to year and the beautiful illustration on the Chest is new every year (read about this year's illustration on our Blog).

The Festive Chest 2016 includes 13 types of Lebkuchen and traditional German pastries. Here's the rundown:
The 2016 Lebkuchen of the Year - Cashew Chocolate Dream - read our Blog article about this new recipe by Schmidt.
Premium Kaiser-Elisen-Lebkuchen - the highest quality of Lebkuchen because of the high nut oil content.
Premium chocolate Elisen Duo - New last year to the Lebkuchen Schmidt offering, Two rectangular Elisen Lebkuchen coated in dark chocolate.
Premium Elisen-Lebkuchen assorted bars - One of my favorites because they come in a compact box that I can inconspicuously pull out of my bag at a coffee shop and enjoy with my coffee! Elisen Lebkuchen has a higher nut oil content and the package contains both glazed and chocolate cookies.
White Lebkuchen decorated with almonds - white gingerbread in a rectangular shape decorated with almonds.
The Festive Tin 2016 filled with assorted choice Lebkuchen - a particulary handsome Tin this year filled with large, round Glazed and Chocolate Lebkuchen.
Fairytale House filled with chocolate coated Lebkuchen hearts and a fairytale - a cute little cardboard house filled with chocolate covered Lebkuchen Hearts (personal favorite!) with a little jam in the middle.
Nuremberg Christstollen - Stollen is a dense loaf of yeast cake (or bread) filled with dried fruit and nuts. A very popular traditional German Christmas pastry and good for sharing.
Spicy Speculatius Biscuits - Another personal favorite! Spicy, crunchy cookies that are made in a mold and take on the details of the illustration in the mold. Often times claimed by Scandinavians, these are popular all over Europe. Kids seem to really love these - my kids eat them by the box!
Dürer Bread with milk chocolate base - Lebkuchen Schmidt introduced these biscuits last year and they were a hit! Sweet yummy cookie with a rich milk chocolate base.
Nuremberg Cinnamon Stars - A chewy little cookie made with hazelnuts and almonds, a little lemon peel and, of course, cinnamon.
Nuremberg Butter Biscuits - We all know that butter makes things better and it definitely did with these Christmas shaped cookies.
Nuremberg Vanilla Crescents - We love these so much we write a whole Blog article just about them - read it here.
And a special gift inside the 2016 Festive Chest is the decorative metal plaque with an illustration of the Lebküchner - the Lebkuchen baker - taking a break outside his shop watching two young boys drooling over the many sweets and pastries in the window!
