For Years You've Been Asking... Now We're Going to Germany Together!

There are some conversations that have a way of repeating themselves over the years.

Customers would visit Gingerbread World, admire a handcrafted smoker from Seiffen, taste a piece of authentic Nürnberger Lebkuchen, or hear me tell the story behind one of our Christmas collections and then ask,

"Why don't you take a group to Germany?"

For years I smiled and said that while I'd love to, organizing an international tour is an enormous undertaking.

Well...I'm delighted to tell you that it's finally happening.

In December 2027, I'll be partnering with TourMagination to host a very special German Christmas Markets & River Cruise—and I couldn't be more excited.

What makes this partnership so special is that everyone gets to do what they do best.

TourMagination has decades of experience creating exceptional travel experiences. They'll handle all of the logistics—hotels, transportation, the river cruise, local arrangements, and everything that goes into making a journey run smoothly.

My role is something quite different.

I'll be there to welcome you into the places and traditions I've come to love over many years of travelling throughout Germany. We'll talk about why the Nürnberger Lebkuchen sold in Christmas markets taste different from anything you've had before. We'll discover the remarkable story of the Moravian community in Herrnhut and how one little paper star became one of the world's most recognizable Christmas decorations. We'll visit Seiffen, where generations of families have been carving wooden treasures for centuries. Along the way I'll share the stories behind the companies, artisans, recipes, and traditions that have inspired Gingerbread World for so many years.

If you've followed Gingerbread World for a while, you'll know that I've always believed every handcrafted ornament, every piece of Christmas baking, and every festive tradition has a story worth telling.

Now we get to experience those stories where they began.

One of the things I'm looking forward to most is introducing you to some of the people and places that have become so important to me personally. Over the years I've had the privilege of travelling to Europe to meet many of the family businesses and artisans whose work fills our shop. Those relationships have given me a much deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship, history, and generosity behind the products we enjoy every Christmas.

And then there's something else that makes this tour especially meaningful.

I'll be hosting it alongside my daughter, Signe 🎉.

While many of you may not know Signe personally, she's always been one of the quiet supporters behind Gingerbread World—pitching in with bookkeeping, helping in the warehouse during our busiest Christmas seasons, and cheering me on from behind the scenes. Today she works as a Tour Manager with TourMagination, making her the perfect partner for this adventure.

Signe will be looking after all of the logistics that keep our journey running smoothly, while I focus on sharing the stories, traditions, Christmas markets, and wonderful foods that have inspired Gingerbread World for so many years.

The opportunity to combine our two worlds—and to create this experience together as mother and daughter—is something I'll cherish for the rest of my life.

Our journey begins in Dresden, home to Germany's famous Striezelmarkt, before visiting Herrnhut, Seiffen, and Nuremberg's world-famous Christkindlesmarkt.

From there we'll board an AmaWaterways river cruise, sailing the Main and Rhine Rivers through towns and cities beautifully decorated for Advent. I've dreamed of taking a European river cruise for years because I love the idea of unpacking once and allowing the scenery to unfold outside your window. Each day brings another historic town, another Christmas market, another local specialty to taste, and another story waiting to be discovered—before returning each evening to the comfort of your floating hotel.

If any of this sounds like your idea of a perfect Christmas adventure, I'd love for you to join us 😊

At this stage we're simply inviting people to pre-register. Pre-registration is completely free and doesn't commit you to travelling, but it lets TourMagination know there's enough interest to move the tour forward and ensures you'll receive priority access when bookings officially open.

If you've ever dreamed of experiencing the Christmas markets of Germany—not just as a tourist, but through the stories, traditions, flavours, and friendships that make them so special—I hope you'll consider coming along.

I truly think it's going to be something very special.

Just wondering if this trip would accommodate someone with mobility issues. I am German and would love to take this trip with my 93 year old mother. She is healthy aside from some mobility issues (she uses a walker)
