The Year is Flying By!

I cannot believe it is June already! Although the winter here in Winnipeg was long, cold and snowy it seems like a distant memory. I'm sitting in my screened in deck (this is Manitoba and mosquitoes are coming!) with my favourite cocktail in hand (Tanqueray Gin and tonic) feeling very lucky!

We live on the Red River and I get to enjoy the sun dancing off the choppy water, the occasional bald eagle soaring past. In the front yard the flowering trees are at their prime and the tulips are magnificent. All three of my kids are living at home right now and it is wonderful!

The busy Christmas season is all wrapped up and put away by the end of January and I get to enjoy a few months off - time to love on my husband and kids, time for coffees and lunches with friends and time to catch up on reading. My middle daughter graduates from high school at the end of the month so the dress shopping has taken some time as well!


Believe it or not Christmas starts again in May! Orders for almost all of our Collections have to be placed in May to ensure we get what we want for the shop. Some of the studios we buy from in Europe are quite small and we book time in their production schedule. This is always a fun time of year - pouring over catalogs and websites choosing the items I think will work best in the online shop. And I am so excited about some of the new items we are offering right now and some things we are keeping under wraps until August 22 when the Christmas Collections are unveiled on the website.

I am also full on into the creation of the Christmas Catalog. I get to work with a super talented and super fabulous graphic designer who helps me with the lay out. A friend from high school is my contact at the printing shop where the catalog is printed. There are so many great people around Gingerbread World who contribute to making being a small business owner a really great experience - suppliers, customers and the friends who help me out when things get busy.
