Canadian Shipping Update: FAQ During the Canada Post Strike

Updated: May 23, 2025

Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are currently in a legal strike/lockout position, which means service disruptions are possible at any time. So far, no formal strike or lockout action has been taken. Negotiations appear to be continuing — though it's been a bit of an on-again, off-again situation.

While that uncertainty is frustrating, we’re still able to ship using Canada Post for now. We’ll continue to do so until official job action begins. Below, we’ve outlined how we’re handling shipping during this time and what to expect if things change.

Are you still shipping within Canada?

Yes — but with some important changes.

Due to the potential Canada Post labour disruption and the high cost of alternatives, we’ll had to adjust both the regions we ship to and the carriers we use. For right now we will continue to use Canada Post.

What carrier are you using if the Canada Post strike goes ahead for sure?

We are now shipping all Canadian orders using Canpar to select provinces.

Which regions are you still shipping to for sure?

We are currently shipping to:

  • British Columbia
  • Alberta
  • Saskatchewan
  • Manitoba
  • Ontario
  • Quebec

Unfortunately, if the strike goes into effect, we are not able to ship to:

  • Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland & Labrador)
  • Northern Territories (Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut)

We understand this is disappointing and we truly wish we could offer better coverage, but rates to these areas have become unmanageable.

Will shipping cost more now?

Yes — if we have to use Canpar instead of Canada Post then shipping rates will be slightly higher than usual. We are doing our best to keep these as low as possible, but as a small shop, we don’t have the negotiating power that large companies do.

Why aren’t you using other carriers?

Many alternative carriers are either:

  • Not servicing from our city (Winnipeg),
  • Still using Canada Post for “last mile” delivery in remote areas,
  • Or designed for high-volume, large-scale businesses.

As a small operation, we don’t have the resources to integrate complex shipping networks — we need simple, dependable solutions, and Canpar is currently our best option.

Why aren’t you using shipping services like Sendle or Chitchats?

We’ve looked at both, but neither works well for us right now. Sendle doesn’t operate in Winnipeg, and Chit Chats has no drop-off locations in Manitoba. Both also rely on other carriers for remote deliveries — often still using Canada Post.

We’ll keep looking for better options, but for now, we’re using the most reliable and affordable services available to us. Thanks for understanding!

Are U.S. orders affected by this?

Not at all!
All U.S. orders are shipped using USPS and will continue without any delays or changes.

Thank You for Understanding

This is not how we want things to work — but we are committed to doing the best we can for our customers. We appreciate your kindness, flexibility, and support during this disruption.
