Lebkuchen of the Year 2023 - Southern Elise from Schmidt Nuremberg

Every year Lebkuchen Schmidt creates a brand new recipe for its "Lebkuchen of the Year". For 2023 they introduce Southern Elise - a fusion of spices and sunshine.

Infused with the flavour of blood orange and chockful of nuts and almonds. Then liberally coated in dark chocolate with 70% cocoa.

I had the good fortune of traveling to Nuremberg this past winter and visiting the Schmidt Lebkuchen bakeries. During the tour of the bakery we entered the special room where the new Lebkuchen recipes are developed. I got to try the Southern Elise still warm from the oven. It is definitely my favourite Lebkuchen yet!
